Women Empowerment

Meri Pehchan

DART facilitated vocational training program Meri Pehchan in Udhamsingh Nagar Uttrakhand & Alwar Rajasthan. To provide livelihood training to under privileged community of Alwar & Udhamsingh nagar and catchment area. The women are one of the most disempowered and deprived groups in Indian society In this area women are living in a very depressed condition and seen as someone to look after the home and bear children. The women and girls of the area are mostly involved in household chores, does not have any say in the family affairs. Excluded from receiving higher education and entirely dependent on their male counterparts, they have to bear the brunt of most of the evils like dowry, domestic violence etc. Being a patriarchal society, women and girls are not allowed to step out of their houses which lead to lower educational status, low confidence to face the world. In view of the financial constraints that a family faces, this skill-building program strives to empower the women, and community at large. It was observed, if some kind of skill is imparted to the women, it would give them more avenues to earn their living. The program will also help them to raise their voice against the ill treatment accorded to them within the family or outside. Hence, vocational training program will enable the rural women and girls to learn and enhance their skills, enhancing their confidence level by making themselves reliant.

The activities have been mentioned below-

Fashion is a style. The course deals with the whole gamut (range) of clothing and apparel designing with latest trends in male, female and children's wears in which they feel more comfortable and look more impressive. Computer Aided Designing and colour diversification has revolutionized the concept of style of life. Fashion designing course includes:

Basic Design, Design Ideas, Sketching Drafting, Clothing Construction, Computer Aided Design, History of Fashion and Textile Theory

We also conducted Fashion shows. The course has been designed, keeping in view the ever growing job market for designer's field

Beauty Care

This is six month course. This is a certificate course, in this course we trained around 120 students in beauty culture & personal grooming.

After completion of the course the trainee are capable of running her own parlour, can become a beauty instructor or can work as a beauty professional in any other parlours.

Students are imparted training in various types of facials, hair styling, hair cutting, pedicure, manicure, waxing etc. Advance methods of hair and skin-care also taught,

students learned everything like draping the sari in various styles, applying mehndi, nail- art etc. A latest method of hair spa & body spa has also taught to the trainees. After one year's training trainees has been become a complete beauty expert.

Cutting and Tailoring

This cutting and tailoring course is also well known as a hobby course. In this we taught stitching of different types of dresses for children and ladies paper drafting is taught before cutting the cloth. Students of this course get opportunity to display their

samples in lots of clothes market. Through this display lots of confidence and motivation given to these students. After Qualifying from this course they can attempt in well place in export house, garment house, designer studios. Some of them can also start their own work.

Since its inception in 2018, more than 1200 trainees have directly benefitted from the Pehchan Skill development programme.
