* expectant mothers was organized, which was attended by a large number of women. These women were identified through a month long survey conducted by the health workers. Issues like Nutrition, pre Natal Care, Personal Hygiene, Breast feeding, Need for immunization etc., were discussed.
* These issues related to family. Planning and various methods of contraception were also discussed. Such camps are useful towards improving the health of women and children from the community and providing a base for their awareness.

Menstrual Hygiene Project

Development Advocacy & Research Trust (DART) has initiated a project to Menstrual Hygiene Management. DART has always held sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women as high priority issues, because it has huge impact on development on the life of girls and women, not only on health but education, security, and gender equality.

In many low- and middle-income areas, where girls receive very limited puberty guidance, and the cost of mass-produced sanitary materials is high, the inadequacy (or complete lack) of safe, private, clean water, sanitation, and disposal facilities creates substantial additional environmental barriers to MHM, The lack of proper sanitation facilities and proper and affordable hygiene materials for the use by adolescent girls and women at home, at school and at workplaces, affects their health, their potential to access education, employment, overall safety and quality of life.

Unsafe and unhygienic materials to absorb menstrual blood can lead to vaginal infections, with possible long-term effects on reproductive health, including psychosocial, educational, work 105 related, and environmental effects.

The goal of this Program is to develop, test and implement a Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Education Guide that can equip girls with the knowledge of what menstruation entails, and how to independently and hygienically manage it.

Within this context, the Menstrual Hygiene Management project uses Nukkad Natak Group discussion as a way to open a dialogue and impart menstrual hygiene education in a playful environment.

Over 3000 women have been trained in menstrual hygiene management thus far in this project. In Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

The organization has effectively delivered the services and worked to improve the awareness level in the target community and general community as well.

India has made rapid strides in the health sector since independence. However, various eye opening data from National Family Health Survey clearly indicate that access to healthcare still remains a challenge. While the health statistics of rural India continue to be poor, the health status and access to health for the poor in urban slum dwellers has surfaced to be equally deplorable and have less than 4% of government primary healthcare facilities.

Urban slum dwellers suffer from adverse health conditions owing to mainly two reasons-first the lack of education and thus lack of awareness; and second the unwillingness to lose a day's wage in order to reach the nearest medical facility. Healthcare for underprivileged, which is a desperate need, thus remains unaddressed.

The need of the hour is thus a two pronged approach-first to bring quality healthcare services to doorsteps of the needy and second to promote healthcare awareness and contemporary healthcare seeking behavior among the underprivileged.

In such a circumstances DART started health camps and health care centers in needy areas. This is a unique health care programme that seeks to address problems of mobility, accessibility and availability of primary healthcare with a special focus on children and women, in urban slums and remote rural areas.

PROJECT GOAL: To improve the availability and access to quality health care by people, especially for those residing in rural areas, the poor, women and children.

Objectives: To provide health services both at curative and preventive treatment to the community.

To provide accessible health facilities to the deprived community.

To promote good health practices and positive health seeking behaviors through health education sessions, generating health awareness among women & adolescents e.g importance of nutrition , mother & child health (ANC,PNC, promote institutional delivery importance of immunization , hygiene and safe drinking water etc .

To disseminate information on health seeking behavior through awareness campaigns including health meetings, awareness sessions.

To ensure active participation of the community to make community an active partner

To network with the private health professionals as well as the government health care institution for referral services and specialized treatment.

To provide counseling by the doctor and staff on the adoption of good health practices in nutrition, health, hygienic and sanitation.

The DART on Wheels programme has so far provided free healthcare services to more than 7500 children and families.
